On the first of November every year, during the Day of the Dead in Peru, thousands of people arrive to the Virgen de Lourdes cemetery, located in Villa María del Triunfo district in Lima, the country's capital, to visit the graves of their loved ones.
However, melancholy and absence are also part of the festivity in the largest cemetery in Latin America. Some niches are abandoned, collapsed crosses are observed and wilted flowers are found all over the road.
Not everyone receives the visit of those they loved. Some have simply been forgotten.
This documentary photography project captures the spirit of the Day of the Dead in this cemetery
