Emily Neave  // Honours Student 2024

As a designer, I'm always curious about how to create things that attract our attention and, in my practice, I produce colourful and eye-catching art.  Through my work, I explore ways to show a different perspective and new meaning or understanding to concepts that may not have been shown before.  I take inspiration from what I see in the creative world but also from the challenges a project provides.

In my projects, I use graphic design and illustration as my main practices. Through these, I continually push myself to learn and figure out new mediums of design that are outside my comfort zone and to help me achieve the best outcome.  I use this approach in my secondary project, through my poster designs where I challenged myself to create not only experimental posters but posters with a purpose.

My main project explores the complex relationship people have between online idols and themselves as fans and how this relationship has evolved through our use of the internet. It considers the question, “What causes someone to feel they have a more meaningful relationship with someone they haven't met or talked to, over one with friends in real life?”
