Katie Brown  // Honours Student 2024

I spent a semester primarily working with RUTS. They are a small business that helps young people that need an alternative to school and offer a wide range of courses. I was inspired by the bold personalities of both my coworkers and young people and helped rebrand the company in this manner. I was also able to work with The Marketing Department in designing a new website that followed the brand guidelines that were in place and the new ones that were discussed. I focused on creating an inviting and helpful tone with bold typography to encourage young people who come from a variety of backgrounds feel welcome and excited for their futures. By having a semester dedicated to real life applications, it gave me the life skills I will need once graduated to maintain a full-time design position.

My second semester was spent creating BUCKS, a company that helps young children that struggle with fine motor skill issues and using the branding knowledge I had gained from real work experience to implement this in my own way. I took inspiration from children’s media and other organisations to create a welcoming and exciting tone throughout the products and branding
