“There is nothing in this world that does not have a decisive moment”

This quote by photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson has inspired the portfolio that I aim to create. As a photographer, I am intrigued as to why that moment is so important; what changed in that moment? This fascination is key to my work as a sports photographer. I have always been keen to understand how photography sparks attraction, particularly by the use of both colour and monochrome.

In particular I wanted to investigate why there is a lack of monochrome photography in modern sports media. I believe I have demonstrated through my photography that monochrome still has a valuable place in the sports media of today. I wanted to investigate how sports media impacts public opinion.

I also expanded my portfolio into sport portraits and commercials to develop my creativity by using colour. This allowed me to refer back to Cartier-Bresson and to why the moment captured in a portrait or commercial was important.

I am also fascinated by Intentional Camera Movement photography. This creative technique records smoother motion like an impressionism painting. I love how this technique can make an ordinary scene look mysterious and beautiful.
