Schneider Electric - Connected home, Cross Platform

My Role
User experience design
Interaction design

Challenge
Schneider Electric came to us with their old home control system that needed a complete overhaul. The design was outdated and they wanted to include more platforms to their portfolio. Thus we created a new design strategy, interaction concept and visual design for the Wiser Home Control.

Process
Through multiple workshops we generated a handful of different concepts and iterated until we landed upon an easy intuitive interaction concept that would translate across the different platforms that we needed - tablet & phone (iOS/Android), web and TV.
From here sketching, mock-ups and interactive prototypes became our day and life. We tested, iterated and re-did a lot in this phase until we reached the goal of having a set of interaction principles that would work across the many functions of the app and also across platforms.
Afterwards an intense period of finalising and documentation began in order to enable developers from Denmark, Australia and Malaysia to work on the same project - but far apart.

Solution
Wiser Home Control provides a seamless control of music, home theatre, lighting, air conditioning, sprinkler systems, curtains and shutters, security systems, anything that can be connected in your home.
The user can access Wiser Home Control anytime anywhere from their phone, tablet, computer and TV with the same recognisable user experience.

The user can control their home manually or create automatic schedules. They can create scenes when they want more things to happen at a time. A movie fan? Then create a scene that dims the light, draws the curtains, slows down the air condition to minimise noise and turns on your tv. Activate the scene with one touch.

The Wiser Home Control includes an audio player that let’s the user browse music, create playlist or throw the sound to different rooms in the house.

The concept also focus on consumption allowing the user to track daily, weekly and monthly energy consumption. Connect sensors to turn off lights when there is no movement in the room. And turn devices off remotely if the homeowner forgot to when they left home that morning.

All sketches and wireframes are created by me. The final graphic designs are made by my good colleagues.
