GCU, DDN-115 Assignment: Life on Mars
Life on Mars was one of the first detailed assignments in the class. This was a Composite assignment done with Photoshop. Students were to develop an ad for "Mars 1", a real estate company selling real estate to the first colony on Mars. The ad was to urge potential buyers to 'buy now' (call to action). The final image is constructed of a minimum of 3 layers to blend and look like one image.
Step 1: Develop a plan. (Sketches/thumbnails)
Step 2: Develop a slogan, with a 'call to action' for real estate on Mars
Step 3: Select images online to construct the ideal Mars development.
When selecting images, copyright/licensing must be recorded and noted in "notes".
Step 4: Construct the final image through Photoshop.
To Construct this composite photo, I chose three primary images; the back ground, the right side/city, and the left side-feeling of home. I added the sofa, table, and rug for added charm. Each image is loaded as an image, masked, and blended into the background to look like it is part of the original landscape. Lighting and shadows are a consideration when choosing photos and how they will land on the image. Here, the right side image of the 'city' had light on the side that should have been shaded, so the image was flipped with respect to light and shadows. Contrast, saturation, and other blending tools are all used to give the same texture, tone, and color to both sides of the image. As with others I have posted, it is important to use layers, work with those layers one at a time, and lock original photos so the integrity is maintained. This allows for the original image to always be untouched and available should you choose to go a different direction with your project.   Typography is added to give the call to action and company's personal touch.
