Giant Spectacular - Liverpool, July 2014.

Creating something that adds to the collective memory of a whole city, is pretty much a tall order - but Royal de Luxe have pulled it off again and with support from the council, achieved something special, that other cities could only ever dream about. Liverpool really is a special place with brilliantly creative and forthright people - Viva Da Pool !

The big crowds brought out loads of street entertainers, buskers and performers and were a great distraction from the barriered in static crowds, holding phones and iPads aloft.
The connection with WW1 was tenuous to say the least and the event really missed a trick, as this could have been the hook to get more national / international coverage. The crowds were always going to be there but more theatre with period clothes, pop up street events, could have emphasised the centenary.
Really busy weekend - tens of thousands of visitors and quite a bit of transport delays. One entrance to Central Station was closed which caused no end of chaos, despite another entrance, just around the corner, being open. I felt sorry for the staff here, as loads of impatient people shouted at them. Also heard that Liverpool Council received many complaints about buses being re-routed, or stopping well short of the city centre.
By Sunday quie a few of the puppeteers and performers looked a little tired. But the crowds still were massive.
