Part A: Yalaba Yalaba People @ Cummeragunja

Following an approach from the Land Council in 2019 the Traditional Owners (TOs) from Cummeragunja invited Bower Studio to help develop an on country culture pavilion in the community. This pavilion should help support cultural practises and learning activities for the resident community as well as visitors of both indigenous and non-indigenous decent. A series of informal meetings over the years has built a respectful relationship and strong levels of trust with a range of community members. Scale models and 1:1 prototypes have been used during several design consultation phases and a pavilion was completed in May 2022. The collaboration is ongoing and your design work will inform following 'build' projects. This year (2023), we revisit the site to work on tightening the steel connections of the non-standard timber.

Part B: Afri-AusCare @ Springvale

The Afri-AusCare community approached Bower Studio in 2020 to help support their vision for a community centre based on UBUNTU philosophies. The centre aims to support the health needs of the broader African refugee diaspora across a range of cultural needs. After fruitful consultation stages, undertaken by Bower Studio and Stavrias Architecture, a set of approved design drawings have been sent to a quantity surveyor. In 2023, Bower Studio built a Kitchen Garden Pavilion for Afri-Aus Care.

Part C: Proposal for The African Food Market @ Dandenong

Aligning with the future plans of revitalising Dandenong, the proposal for the African Food Market aims to:

1. Provide job opportunities for the African migrant community.
2. Provide a space for the African community to share their culture by selling local food and plants every weekend.
3. Provide a space for the wider neighbourhood to gather and celebrate.
4. Share what Afri-Aus Care do.
