This redesign of Rietveld’s Red and Blue chair is inspired by its core values of simplicity, functionalism, modernism, and neo plasticism.

In the world we live in today, we design to save space and resources. This design focuses on being able to construct the chair with less than 17 pieces(number of pieces in original chair design), and which would work towards saving energy, resources, time, and space. The chair is made using 2 planks of recycled honeycomb cardboard; One slides and fits into the other. It has no joints, no hinges, no screws, or glue, which allows for easy manufacturing, packaging, transport, DIY construction, and storage.

The chair is designed in such a way that the user must completely lean back; it is a reminder to slow down and relax in today’s fast paced life. Keeping Rietvleld’s original values intact, this chair incorporates eco-friendly values of the 21st century, towards aesthetic and simple furniture.
