Dotwork Pen & Ink Illustrations

Pen & Ink Illustration

Pen and ink illustration is my favorite way to draw. The technique of stippling and illustrating in all dots is cathartic and allows for precise detail.

Here in the chess game, the negative space of the dotwork balances the art between pieces and the playing board. In the violin drawing the dripping and melting concept is expressed using stippling to contrast the hatching of the instrument. The plant leaves come to life with the dotwork as well carving paths for the details on the leaves. Hatching and fine line strokes bring the animals and hair on the dog to life. The dotwork in the cat series add an additional whimsical feel and makes the kittens even more playful.

It's all in the details!
