We were honored to craft the title sequence for the OFFF Festival 2023 in Mexico. We joined forces with talented writer and director Sam Southward, and the music maestro Peter Albertz, we embarked on a creative journey. Together, we wove a narrative that revolves around an overworked woman caught in the throes of an existential crisis. As the story unfolds, she comes to a profound realization: the need to reorient her focus onto the things that truly matter.

THE STORY

An overworked woman in the midst of an existential crisis realizes that she needs to refocus on what’s important.

CHARACTER DESIGN

Crafting Tess: Curves in a Boxy World.

When it came to Tess, our main character, we went for a girl with long, curvy limbs. This not only made her stand out in a boxy world, but it also let us play up the comedy as her space shrinks. The 'aha' moment for us? Seeing her 'resting bored face'—that's when we knew she was the one. Oh, and her name? It's inspired by the four-dimensional cube, the tesseract.

PROCESS

In the sketching phase, we put pencil to paper for almost all our objects and scenes.

This let us test out ideas fast and figure out how to fit everything into our 'boxy' theme.
Plus, it was a great way to brainstorm jokes and visual gags.

STYLE FRAME DEVELOPMENT

From Raw Vision to Refined Reality:
Crafting Each Frame with Precision

Every shot underwent an extensive exploration phase, allowing us to fine-tune lighting, materials, and color choices. We also paid close attention to the level of detail, ensuring it served our overall vision. This meticulous process of iteration helped us to really hone in on the film's final look.

THE BOX

We centered our film around a simple but powerful idea: the shrinking square.

This square serves as the visual frame that narrows in on our character as her stress levels rise. With each new day, the square tightens, mirroring her growing emotional tension.
