Visual Identity Design
The Client:
The local authorities of Greek island, Syros, located in the Cyclades island complex.
Syros is candidate for the European Capital of Culture, year 2021 and was in need for a visual identity to represent and promote the island.
AKTO College of Athens, Greece, held a student competition and the best design would be used to represent the island. Thus this project is my entry for the competition. Results are still pending.
Concept:
A thorough research that I conducted on the island of Syros for a poster design revealed the island's vast cultural background. After experimentation with several ideas and concepts my final approach was a modern logotype with a font that presents similarities to the traditional Cycladic sculptures. The logotype resembles classic Cycladic scenery with interesting perspectives. It is closely connected with the island of Syros as it is based on the landmark Saint Nicholas cathedral, located in Ermoupolis, the capital city of Syros.
