Avanca Film Festival has the objective of tracing a global perspective of the contemporary features in cinema, television, video and multimedia. It takes place once a year in a small portuguese village called Avanca, and it can be distinguished by its unique multicultural and laid-back approach.
In order to develop a new graphic image for the event, I studied the history of the village, its symbols and main characteristics. In the last years, the cow was the key element of the festival's image, as it represented the village strong agricultural production and dairies' industry. I decided to keep it, but adapt it to my concept, that was based on the organicity of the land, the multiculturalism of the event and used an adaptation of the pattern of painted oxbows, a peculiarity of local craftwork. The pattern also represents a medicinal flower called avenca, that used to grow in the village fields and to whom it owes its name Avanca.
The choosen color was gold, as it is the color of the winners (gold medal) and of cinematographic glamour. In order to get the metalic effect of the gold (not really seenable on the photographies), all the project was printed using a serigraphic technique, which also contributed to obtain a more organic and experimental effect.
