The concept of the airport terminal and the adjacent square was developed by the Architectural Studio of Sergei Shvedov from St. Petersburg. The main idea taken as a basis when designing the exterior of the airport and the station area is the importance of the Sakhalin region as the eastern outpost of Russia. The architects were also inspired by the unique geographical location of the region, so the concept for landscaping the adjacent territory will reflect the island specificity of Sakhalin.
Task
We needed to develop a corporate identity for the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk airport, which, on the one hand, would have continuity with the corporate identity of the airport in Krasnoyarsk, and, on the other, would reflect the specifics of the island region (Sakhalin is the eastern outpost of the country, the only island region Russia).
Solution
The geotag was taken into the logo as an association with travel and new places and a wave was added to it, symbolizing the Sea of Okhotsk, washing the island of Sakhalin. The combination of cool turquoise (sea wave) and warm bright orange hue (symbolizing sunrise) gives good contrast and visibility.
Based on this symbol, we have developed many style-forming elements that are used both in interior decoration and details, and in employee uniforms. The main color was a strict dark blue, symbolizing the night before dawn and perfectly correlating with the logo. In key images, the geotag is played out as the sun rising from the horizon against the backdrop of sea waves.
We also developed new iconography, which is used in various information signs and the navigation system inside the airport.
In the brand book we showed how to place the logo correctly, what colors and proportions to use.
The new airport has become a kind of symbol of Russian modern architecture, and the corporate style corresponds to the scale of the construction and reflects modern design trends, in no way inferior to the best international airports.
