Paternoster
Up and down

 

During my studies, students were asked to visualize the topic “up and down”. My group and I chose to interpret this topic using the paternoster elevator.

 

We both conducted location scouting in Germany, and found three paternoster elevators in close proximity in Stuttgart.

We equipped each of us with a camera, took initial video sketches, then recorded. In the end we had more footage then we had planned for. My team member and I reviewed the footage together and were able to narrow down the selection into the most impressive shots.

 

I edited all the material into a movie of under two minutes duration.

 

We both intentionally chose to give the video a cool tone to support the mechanical, yet magical feeling one experiences when riding one of these elevators.
