This is a passion project I began as a fun way to practice apparel design. I drew inspiration from past and present events to envision the future Hot Girl Walk uniform of 2024.
During 2020 and 2021, we saw a lot of matching sets that were brightly colored and patterend. This year, everywhere I look I see someone in an exercise dress or exercise romper. I've observed that bright colors have taken a back seat to the classic colors like red, black, brown, and navy.
We are departing from an era characterized by comfort and convenience. Everyday life is once again becoming a reason to dress up. While the fashion cycle is typically believed to span about 20 years, in my opinion, we are drawing inspiration from styles that go back closer to 30 years. Nobody is excited to welcome the low rise yoga pants of the early 2000's back just yet.
I drew inspiration from the classic colors showcased in the Spring 2023 Fashion Week presentations, as well as the neon accents popularized by the nostalgic Barbie movie.
Much needed practice fashion sketching.
The silloutette is reminiscent of the leotard over tights look, but in a modern and wearble way.

When I discussed this project with my mom, she mentioned that she loved wearing stirrup pants in the 90s. I immediately knew that stirrups were exactly what this look needed.
I experimented extensively with colors. For the classic colors in the top row, I created a color block look. As for the neon colors in the bottom row, I used the seams as an opportunity to add pops of color.
Below is the look that I would most like to wear.
I am excited revise this look as I continue to learn more in the apparel design space.
