INTRODUCTION

Back in 2012 I started working on my diploma thesis. I've been 3D modeling and rendering furniture for more than 5 years now and when the time came to write my final thesis, I was pretty sure I wanted to design my own piece of furniture. I dig into books and learned quite a lot about history of furniture, especially Scandinavian furniture and I also made a research of current trends and furniture market. After that I had a clear picture what kind of chair I wanted to design (If I'm honest, I was very positive it was going to be a Wing chair from the very start).

CONCEPT

It all started with dozen and dozen of sketches and few months flew by until I finally settled with the concept and the shape of the chair. I decided to create a chair that would require no screws nor glue to assemble just simple wood joining. In order to be able to join all pieces with each other I had to meticulously plan and draw all joints on each piece of wood. The cutting for upper, wooden part of chair was done on a CNC milling machine and the lower part with CNC pipe bending machine. I used T-fix wooden panel, dimensions 2.5 x 1.25 m to cut out all the parts for one chair.

You may be wondering if the chair is even slightly comfortable and the answer is more than you would think!
I carefully followed ergonomic guidelines and even though the chair has no cushion or even any non-hollow surface It's still very much usable, even for long periods of sitting. There will also be a textile cushion cover available for the chair, but It was not part of the thesis and It's still an ongoing project.

The chair you see on the pictures below is a prototype which contains four screws, but the final production piece will not.
