[Re]lighting Offices
Controlling daylight with an integrated system can make offices more sustainable, productive, efficient, healthy, and pleasant. [Re]lighting Offices proposes to create offices that do this by bringing daylight from the exterior of the building intot he interiors through horizontal and vertical sections.
This was my thesis at Syracuse University and explores how natural daylight can make offices sustainable and places that employees want to be. I chose an existing office on the seventh floor of the Sears Tower (Willis Tower) in Chicago, the office is a North/West facing office so gets very little natural light. My proposal draws light into the space and distributes it evenly in the office. This can be seen in the Illuminance studies below in which red represents direct sunlight and indigo represents no light; the yellow/green spectrum is the ideal quality of light for the office.
