AUGMENTED HUMAN #12

An art project on punk culture and Neo-PostHumanism

In this particular instance, I would like to share some details about the upscaling process I have developed, which combines GAN and AI upscaling. This process results in the entire image being upscaled with added details.

As a graphic designer and digital native, I am accustomed to preparing graphics for print, and this market demands high quality. The raw output directly from the AI tools available today is generally of low quality, typically ranging from 512x512 px up to around 960x1200 px. Such resolution is insufficient for print as it results in graininess and pixelation. If you zoom in on any artwork that has not been upscaled, you will notice these issues immediately.

Displayed below is the original raw output of this particular piece.
Feel free to zoom in and examine it closely.

You may have experimented with or worked with AI in some capacity. If not, allow me to briefly explain the initial steps involved in the process.

When creating art with AI, there are various tools available, with one of the most commonly used being Midjourney. However, there are several other similar tools that allow you to generate art from text. To produce highly detailed and quality artwork using these tools, it is crucial to become well-acquainted with the AI tool of your choice. I would compare this process to learning a new language—you must provide detailed instructions to the AI; otherwise, the output may appear generic. To surpass this limitation, it is necessary to understand how the tool responds to your instructions.

One important reason I mention this is that each AI tool imparts a distinct look to the artwork. Those familiar with these tools can easily identify which tool was used, making your work resemble what the masses have been creating.
