A newly refurbished dining space within the McCord Stewart Museum, Café Notman is located in the cultural heart of Montreal and attracts tourists, students and locals. The name is evocative, as it pays tribute to the renowned photographer William Notman (1826-1891), whose extensive collection of photographs and negatives are held by the Museum. For this identity project, a signature was created in a nod to the neon sign of the Notman & Sons studio that once stood on Sherbrooke Street West and now overlooks the Café. Both contemporary and inspired by the belle époque, the identity is distinct and appealing, blending harmoniously with a comforting palette and a tongue-in-cheek visual direction featuring the artist's photographs.
