In Brazil, specially at the northeast region, there's a strong force based on cultural memories. Traditional and religious festivities, myths and legends are a big part of the day-to-day life. This series is a small cut of six diferent characters from popular culture, and it was exhibited at "Caravana - Não Perca a Bandeira" my first solo show at the UFAL Gallery space in Maceió.
Matheus is a very special character from several acts of popular culture theathers. He's shows himself as a clown, connecting with the audience.
Boto Cor-de-Rosa (something like Pink Dolphin) is a legend that says when the full moon is on, and there are festivities next to rivers, Boto turns into a man and goes partying trying to find a female to be with him.
Mulher da Capa Preta is an urban legend about two strangers meating in a rainy night and falling in love. The other day when this man goes looking for his last night lover he discovers that she's alredy dead.
Mãe D'água (Iara, Iemanjá) is a tradition brazilian siren. She enchants men with her voice to drag them to the bottom of the sea with her.
Mula-Sem-Cabeça is a legend about romantic lovers . It says if you're having a romantic affair with a priest, you'll turn into a headless horse at night.
Parafusos is a parade, remebering the slaves who ran to seek for freedom at the "Quilombo".
