Bodily Anticipation

More dopamine is released during anticipation of a reward than when a reward is actually received.

Professor Robert Sapolsky’s experiment with monkeys in which he made this discovery, inspired me to research further into other bodily functions that prove to be more heightened ‘pre-reward’.

Employing the process of unwrapping gifts as a platform for communicating anticipation, I designed a series of wrapping papers which communicate the changes that occur in the various parts of the body. Thereby eliciting these anticipatory changes within the gift-unwrapper, whilst simultaneously educating them on the science behind them.
Below is the final piece in exhibition format at the Kingston Degree Show. An informative gift tag attached to each of the boxes.
