Textile Design Catalogue 2014

This was a live project set by the Textile Design BA (Hons) course at Falmouth University. We were asked to create a proposal for their end of degree catalogue. The catalogue needed to show off each student's work, look professional, sleek and classy and come in on budget. After creating a series of mock ups and pitching my ideas to representatives from the course, this is my final mock up. I produced a sample of the catalogue to show how the catalogue would work.
I bound the catalogue by hand and left the stiches exposed as a subtle nod to the textile design course. The theme running through the book revolves around triangles; the three-sided shape represents the three main areas of the textile design course (print, mixed media and weave). I used the triangle shape in different ways throughout the book adding interest. I kept the cover quite abstract in order to enhance the rich and vivid imagery displayed inside the book.
I produced a spread which displays each student's work inspired by bringing together swatches creating a patchwork feel. This image could also be used as a poster or a keepsake for the year group. Here the page serves as a divider between the contents page and the individual profiles of the designers.
Each student has their own spread with a large, full page image of their work as well as a triangular swatch and a rectangular panel which provide the opportunity to show the adaptibility of the work in different formats. Each student also submitted a description of their work as well as contact details which were a crucial element as this piece was to be used as a networking tool.
