Theme: Instrument
Idea introduction:
I have interpreted 'Instrument' as a way objects or things can be of help to mankind. Similarly events or situations can also be instrumental to other situations. However, I would like to concentrate on how things can be an instrument in another form, assisting humans, being an instrument to them to make their living more comfortable and enjoyable. Many a times, people take for granted their healthy, whole, body. On the other hand, there are others who are unfortunately disabled, take for example, a blind person. A blind person lacks the eyesight that to us, is second nature. Fortunately, guide dogs are an instrument to the blind which allows them to travel easier and also provide companionship. I am interested in how the blind "sees" the wolds in a different light through the guide dog.
Idea inspiration:
My artwork is inspired by the blind traveling around. Usually they are alone without any assistance but once in a while I come across someone with a guide dog to assist him. This relationship between a man and his guide dog and how each is dependent on one another inspires me. The dog becomes an extension of his eyes and in return. he gains a trusting companion. I am inspired by a visually disabled person's point of view on how he views the world. My artwork will show how guide dogs have have a dual function, one being an instrument of sight to the blind and also as a companion. Very much like the yin and yang symbols, both cannot operate well without each other.
My artwork can be placed at the office of The Guide Dogs Association of the Blind to give people a better understanding of this wonderful relationship.
