Signals | "My Maritime Impressions" T-Shirt Design Competition 2013
Organised by The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), supported by LASALLE College of The Arts
To celebrate Singapore Maritime Week 2013, MPA has organised a T-shirt design competition based on the theme, "My Maritime Impressions". The objective is to design a T-shirt by drawing inspiration from what captures our imagination about Maritime Singapore: the ecosystem of maritime and port services available in Singapore.
As a large and successful organization, I believe effective communication played a critical role in its daily operations. My design is inspired by the navy signals, a form of communication used between sea vessels. Navy signals is thoughtfully used to spell the event title, anchored on the need for simplicity and clarity, which echoes what effective communication is all about. A bold, rounded typeface is also utilized to reflect the liveliness of the event. Additionally, the back design cleverly uses a simple curved line to mimic a compass, with the arrowhead pointing northeast, as shown on Singapore’s geographical location.
My design was awarded 3rd in the LASALLE Design Communication Category.
