Story – Message: This project was born out of a combination of the desire to practice interior and character illustration skills, and an immense frustration with trying to move in the current housing crisis. The result is a short humorous animation where we visit a series of unique characters in their increasingly smaller homes.

Concept: The goal of this project was to tell a small story about how it’s increasingly difficult for younger people to find appropriate housing. We form this narrative by deliberately sequencing the houses from big to small, and the characters from old to young.

We started this project out with designing all the characters with unique personalities and backstories. Afterwards we built the house for each character around their age and interests, making every house have an unique look and interior. To make the transitions between houses communicate as clearly as possible every house and character has an easily distinguishable colour scheme that is based around one colour. We emphasize the difference between the houses by making everything else similar: the houses are all illustrated in a consistent style and transition on similar timing.
