That means using the most sustainable ingredients and appropriate materials but also ensuring distribution channels and partners are the greenest and cleanest too.
The Brief
1.4 billion plastic body wash bottles are thrown away every single year. Bob approached Beta to develop a solution to remove the need for plastic body wash bottles and amplify the washing experience.
The inefficiency of liquid soap applied by hand leads to high volumes of wastage when washing. Bob wanted to create the optimal application of their solid soap formula to tackle this, whilst providing an improved user experience for consumers.
Pain Points
Bob has been designed to address four key pain points when using solid soap bars; the inability to easily travel with hard soap, a lack of lather compared to liquid alternatives, large volumes of plastic waste packaging and a high alkaline content in products on the market, which isn't suitable for male skin.
The refilling experience has been carefully created using a patented mechanism, allowing for rapid refill and an individually optimised soap height. Bob has been sculpted around the palm of your hand, making sure each wash feels like a natural experience.

Product Development
Throughout a six-month development journey, the Beta team tested multiple mechanisms and physical forms to provide the best possible washing experience for Bob users.
A combination of test rigs, with various silicone bristle configurations and different soap formulas, meant we could dial in the quantity and quality of soap lather on the body. This was pivotal to ensure the end product would be superior to stand-alone solid soap bars and liquid body wash.
The Details
Bob's plastic-free refills allow for approximately 30 showers per month and are delivered to your door. The bar has a pH balance of 5.5, matching the skin's natural levels, and uses the best ingredients for bodies and planet. It was important that the soap didn't contain many of the usual industry ingredients such as SLES, SLS, CAPB, Dioxane, Tetrasodium EDTA and TCS.
The Bob applicator uses a medical-grade soft touch silicone body, providing a durable and non-slip interaction - no more dropping soap bars in the shower.
