Hi, my name is Viktor Pushkarev, I'm professional font designer, calligrapher and letterer. This book is compilation of my expertise and knowledge about Slavic Vyaz Script, that I've compiled and structured in one place. This book was in the process of making from 2017 and I've even made a work in progress presentation here on Behance.
The original concept was changed, since the overall aesthetics were a bit grim and dark, and I did not want to dive deep into paleographic and historical research. While the forms of letters cannot be reinvented, they can be reimagined. Therefore, the materials in this book are continuously linked to historical forms, even without historical references or paleographic research. You will also find links to articles and materials on calligraphy that I have published over the last 8 years, which adds special value to this guide.
It is important to note that Vyaz script is not an exclusive phenomenon of Russian culture but a Slavic style of writing inherited from Byzantine culture. This style belongs to all Slavic peoples and this book includes all Slavic Cyrillic as well as Latin script adaptations.
This is a truly unique book, since there's not that much structured information and materials anywhere on the Internet about this topic. This book is beautiful, colorful, enjoyable and very simple, so any beginner can study this material. I'm mostly self-thought and I've experienced the struggle of learning materials without a teacher. That's why I did my best and I'm giving opportunity to beginners to study this topic with ease.
Most of the work presented in this book is tightly connected to my professional work, so this is an additional exceptional value, since this is not only a book about letters, but also about my artistic approach and professional development.
