In close collaboration with Gulbenkian’s curating, editorial and exhibition design team, we’ve developed the visual design concept identity for the exhibition Superstar Pharaohs. The underlying concept is based on a question that Senwosret III — a relatively unknown Pharaoh for us but one of the most powerful Egyptian rulers ever — asks himself, and the audience, about what means to be a Pharaoh today. Senwosret’s figure gazing at the past attitude along with a metaphoric time line, aim to express the ever changing mythical symbolism of the Pharaoh entity and the ultimate difference between Egyptology and Egyptomania.
