Interactive artwork for represent the essence of Taiwanese culture. A typical Taiwanese social activity is nightmarket. It is a folk custom in Taiwan that people hang out after dinner with neighbors and friends to have some snacks or play small games in nightmarkets. Nightmarket has its social and cultural meaning and has last for decades. In this project we used interactive technology to extract this value and intend to represent nightmarkets in various ways.

 

The project of Rhythm in Nightmarkets is intended to extract the sound pattern of nightmarket from a first-person point of view and visualize it in a narrative way. We collected vatious sounds in a nightmarket and considered these sounds as the 'breathing' of the nightmarket. The outcome of this project is a Flash animation that shows how nightmarkets become alive and fade away in a cycle.
