In “Not Pretty”, Kim works to capture the expanse of the human condition with minimalist abstract paintings featuring organic bright floral compositions. Equally symbols for love and life as they are for loss and tragedy, her distorted flowers play with the complexity of this relationship, framing their antithetical nature with bold colors and shapes brought together in one space. But unlike their live counterparts, the flowers are caught within an invisible container and kept alive, their perfection preserved and their beauty contained in a way that we struggle to achieve off the canvas. 

The romance between the dancing shapes - a harmonious flow between color and shape, light and dark - represents the continuous movement and unpredictability of life, which is constantly shaping our own realities.
