Insoles are not fashionable products: Inserted in our shoes they live in the shadows an unglamorous life and yet they do have a substantial impact on our well-being. Spending a large part of the day on our feet, we are exposed to fatigue, heel pain, pronation and supination (or underpronation), conditions under which a person does not sufficiently roll the foot after landing . Placing this extra stress on the foot can result in iliotibial band syndrome of the knee, Achilles tendinitis and plantar fasciitis.
The new line of insoles is based on extensive material research and human factor studies. Incorporating injection-molded parts it had to fit different sizes to satisfy the business case without compromising comfort and performance. With an extensive know-how in the development of insoles, SONIC Design developed fully functional pilot parts to test them in the field. Men and women of different age and demographic backgrounds, walked, ran and jumped with these prototypes for months. Based on the feedback, the design team adjusted and retested the overall geometry, foam density and material properties of the semi-rigid shell and of the “Trampoline Heel”.
