Soban Cafe

MORE THAN THE SMALL TABLE

Soban is a modern-style eatery & bar located in the central area of Young & Finch in Toronto. The name is derived from Korean culture. Soban (Korean: 소반; Hanja: 小盤) are small tray-like tables, usually wooden, used in Korea for carrying food and as individual dining tables. The character "小盤" in Chinese also means a small plate. We think a small table can be seen as a large plate, and a plate can be seen as a small table. With these concepts in mind, we created the overall visual design for Soban, a modern, comfortable, forest-themed dining and leisure space.

The wordmark serves as the base and is the only hard element in the visual presentation of the logo. The typeface design is inspired by a woodcarving font style. For consistency with the concept, its Chinese wordmark uses a relatively broader and more stable structure. The overall logo, composed of these elements, aims to convey a relaxed and comfortable feeling.
