Cursus Barrows, a study in colour
A few months ago I was watching a TV program about Stonehenge and the mysterious Curscus Barrows. A structure I had not seen before. I became intrigued by the compositions of these structures when seen from the air.
The four oil pastels paintings, inspired by the images, became an exercise in colour, revealing the relationship between the angular ditches surrounding the burial domes.
Each painting is small, the size of a postcard, which is unusual for me as I usually produce larger works.

This work was inspired by a collectionof Roman column pieces I photographed during a holiday in Rome a couple of years age. I was interested in the shapes and used the original to form the basis for this abstract work.
I used oil pastels to achieve the rich colours and textures.
