A story set in a prehistoric era to question our civilized society and the false myths of development.
Inside a cave, old Long-beard tells a story to three young men: his grandsons Deer-Runner and Yellow-Head, and Afraid-of-the-Dark. Long before, he and the other Fish-Eaters were really foolish. They didn’t know the secret of strength: each of their thirty families lived on its own and only cared about itself. The Meat-Eaters, on the other hand, were unified: they hunted, fished and fought together. And by doing so, each of them became as strong as ten men. One day they reached the valley of the Fish-Eaters, killed many men and children and carried off several women. That’s when the Fish-Eaters learned their lesson and decided to join forces so they could fight as one man when the Meat-Eaters would come back to attack them. Thus, their tribe was born and, little by little, laws were issued, a leader was elected, the land was divided up, and some men began to work for others in return for money. But would all this really make them more unified and stronger?
