A new translation of the classic novel by Jack London adorned with oil illustrations by Roger Olmos.
When the Gold Rush bursts out in Klondike, the life of a dog living in California changes for good. Buck is an imposing crossbreed between a St. Bernard and a Scotch shepherd who lives in Judge Miller’s sunny estate. Despite his imposing size, he is a well-tamed dog: he goes hunting with Miller’s sons, goes for walks with his daughters, watches over the children and keeps the Judge company, curled up by the fireplace.
Meanwhile, in the snowy North stormed by gold diggers, strong sled dogs are in high demand; therefore, one day Buck is abducted, sold to the first bidder, and sent North on a train. It is the beginning of a journey that will take him to a primitive and cruel world, in which the rules of civilized life give way to the law of club and fang.
Forced to make the best of it, Buck becomes a sled dog and learns to use force, cunning, and intelligence to assert himself in a hostile world in which only the strongest survive. His new hard life stirs up his long-assuaged primal instincts that resurface in the form of memories of a past life. They are the memories of his ancestors, who lived before many generations of domesticated dogs. Through these memories, Buck begins to hear the call of the wild.
In the cold North, the protagonist runs through thousands of kilometres changing many masters before meeting a gold digger who saves his life and inspires him such an attachment and an irresistible and unreserved love he has never felt before. With this man, Buck is finally happy, but right then the call of the wild is more and more compelling. Where will it take him
