Here's my latest cover drop for Jamie Hoang's new book published by Crown Books for Young Readers a division of Penguin Random House.

Attached is an overview of my process from sketch to final.

My process: I begin drawing using either pencils or a fineliner to get me warmed-up, and then move to using the 6B pencil in Procreate.
Once the sketch has been chosen, I tighten it in Procreate using the Dry Ink and 6B pencils, and then upload the tight-drawing into Adobe Illustrator.

Sometimes I do some colour exploration if I think it'll help the final illustration. In this case, I assumed that colour would enhance the tension and create a feeling of "heat" that I wouldn't be able to achieve using lines or marks. Adding colours during this sketch stage allowed me to see and to prove whether or not my assumptions would be correct.

Most of my foundational shapes and general areas of light and shadow are made using vectors and then imported into Procreate where I add a few more marks using Fine Tip and Technical Pens.

Lastly I airdrop the vector-Procreate drawing into Photoshop where I layer onto it, handmade textures.
