Complexity of choice
The first work focusing subject and methodology of my MA project at Central Saint Martins. I identified the subject of choice, as my main focus area for my major MA project.
This is a short summary of my work from unit 1, which have lead me to my current focus and further development of the subject area:

Which dilemmas and conflicts do we face when choosing one thing from another in everyday life? In this project I want to investigate and enlighten the complexity of decision making processes, and how we navigate in it.

Research question:
How can I find a system to enlighten the complexity of choice in everyday life?

I have outlined my perspective in the study of behaviour and the process of choice. I base my work on scientific field studies enlightening different theory’s of how we chose.
This research led me to making my own research studies on experimental basis. It is my interest to investigate how research can be design, and how close the two disciplines are and can be. My experimentation in dialogue with people gave me views that lead me forward to ideas of how to help enlighten the process of choosing and the complexity of this.

Field study
Experiencing matters of choice by following 3 persons in one day. The method was developed with inspiration from cultural probing methodologies. Each participant was given a booklet with 100 pages to note the choices made in one day. Starting when waking up:
The first consideration for almost every participant - to snooze or not?
Participant no. 1 making a quick reaction to a girl in a shop suddenly flirting.
Participant no. 2 having a casual choice of weather or not to buy flowers. The person chooses to make he´s girlfriend happy.
Participant no. 3 considering weather or not to react to a colleague talking loudly in working the space. Set limits and maybe start a conflict?
Analysis:
Participant no. 1's choices collected in a risk graph, shows that the choices of greatest risk is the ones considered over longer time than this day, having future impact.
1. Reflections: The constant flow of reflection in ones mind
2. Reactions: Reaction to approaches from the outside, placed in your consciousness by others
3. Active action: Reflections and reactions are tied together in the proactive active action of choice
Visualisation of a persons reflections, reactions and actions during a day.

This animation experiment has arisen from my above findings. This is one of my first animations.
