PINGO DOCE · A new way of shopping

GOAL

Pingo Doce's goal was to improve and ease their customer experience, from the shopping list preparation at home to the payment procedure at the store. The main challenge was to transform the paper-based consumer experience into a digital solution. With innovative features, we created a unique shopping experience, offering personalisation to 
users' needs.
UNDERSTANDING CUSTOMERS' NEEDS

Together with Pingo Doce, we conducted consumer research to understand customer behaviors and demands when making their supermarket purchases. Among other conclusions, the study revealed that 75% of all people surveyed make a paper shopping list before visiting a physical store. That was the starting point to start working on a user-centred app.
DESIGNING THE PRODUCT

After research, we created a UI concept, which defined the look and feel of the user experience. Then, we start designing the first journeys of the app. We iterated these journeys multiple times with stakeholders to understand the solution's viability, and its suitability with business requirements and expectations. Simultaneously, we conducted interviews with users about the main app areas to validate the solution. In the end, we reached a final and thorough proposition for Pingo Doce's app, which included the app's map, the design specifications, and an MVP with visual layouts.
ORGANISING THE SHOPPING EXPERIENCE

With the app, users can collaboratively create shopping lists (sharing and editing them with others) and order fresh meals from any Pingo Doce store. Items from the list can be associated with actual products to display the final price. Also, customers can cross off items and organize the list by category when visiting the store.
FINDING PRODUCTS AND PROMOTIONS EFFORTLESSLY

Inside the app, it's possible to easily and quickly search for products by text, voice, or by scanning the barcode. The paper format pamphlet was brought into the app, allowing consumers to see the weekly sale products and add them to their shopping lists. Personalised product suggestions are displayed to customers according to their shopping preferences.
DEMATERIALISATION OF THE LOYALTY CARD

We brought the loyalty card into the app, saving customers' time and gathering all the promotional information in just one accessible place. Users can easily follow their expenses, know how much they saved, check their balance and receive personalised notifications.
MAINTAINING AND IMPROVING THE SOLUTION

We continue our collaboration with Pingo Doce to support the maintenance and development of the solution, evaluate users’ feedback, and improve the customers' shopping experience day after day.
