Textiles Exhibition Catalogue

This was a live project where I worked collaboratively with another designer. The brief was set by the final year Textile students to design their exhibition catalogue. We had to work within a budget and visualised a number of playful ideas before presenting our final idea.

Our chosen idea looks at using a gatefold cover that showcases snippets of each student's work. We decided to keep the cover white, as it accentuates the colourful work as soon as you open the catalogue. Another feature included perforated strips on each double page spread, which contained the student's contact information. This could then be used as a way of bookmarking certain pages.

We also wanted a way for the catalogues to be personalised for each student. Our idea was to highlight a part of their work by creating wrap arounds, which fits neatly around the front cover.

After walking around the textiles studio, we were inspired by the technical equipment that the students use to create these intricate pieces.

The typeface below was inspired by the Jacquard Loom, a machine used for complex patterns.
