Editorial design - Narrative and Curatorial Photography

Project brief
This project consists of a horizontal layout that illustrates a narrative focusing on one or more of the following qualities: shape, texture, pattern, colour and tonal values. A narrative, as a ‘concept’, is curated through the use of photography. The layouts consist of both documentary photography and fashion photography. The aim of this project is to capture scenes that are visually striking and to use these photographs to convey a narrative.

Project deliverables
- x1 Photographic series of 5 photos

Design strategy
The strategy taken for this series was to pick one of the qualities given to us and really hone in on that, for both the documentary and fashion photography. After exploring the different qualities, texture was my chosen quality to focus on. This meant my fashion photography had to follow through with this.

In terms of editing and enhancing the photographs, I wanted to focus on bringing the texture out without using too much black or white as this would distract from the already busy textures. When taking my fashion photographs, busy clothing and backgrounds were a necessity in order to fit in with the documentary shots taken beforehand.
