The Design of The Deck of Luminaries Tarot is inspired by the visual mixing pot of city life and the people living it.
What makes the characters in Luminary City different from other decks are their stories. Each of the cards have a different character living a life that overlaps with the other people in the world.
The settings of the cards show the different locations around Luminary City. People’s homes, their workplaces, even the public spaces like parks and schools show up in deck.
The stories are a big part of the world in The Deck of Luminaries and those stories are told in the accompanying guidebook. Inside the pages of the book are the stories of the people in the world, as well as an introduction that teaches the reader one possible method for reading the cards.
Being a print medium, the guidebook is an opportunity to expand the visual language inspired by the title art on the deck box. A bespoke alphabet typeface crafted from several mixed typefaces forms every title of each card.
