THE STORY

BECKONING is a proof of concept for a feature length animated film. It is “The Revenant” meets “Lost in Space”. A dark and gritty story aimed at mature audiences, set in a clash of eras where the future meets the past.

PROCESS

Building upon my previous UE experience with creating Irradiation, here’s a brief overview at some of the new production efficiencies brought to us by Epic Games Unreal Engine 5 and AMD, and how they’re helping to empower independent filmmaking.
CONCEPT ART

Lead by our Art Director, Milan Nikolic, the concept art team designed the look and feel of characters and the world of BECKONING.
CHARACTERS

Lead Character Artist Antonio Esparza helmed the asset production team, and together with our lead rigger, Lucas Salamon, has brought the characters to life.
Face Stylization Development

RIGGING

We utilized Mesh to Metahuman in order to preserve our custom stylized facial sculpts while receiving the full benefits of a Metahuman facial rig.
ENVIRONMNETS

Mihailo Radosevic helmed the production of the main environmental piece, the crashed spaceship, while the landscape generation was produced by HYDRA Studios with their amazing in-house terrain generation tool in Houdini.
MOTION CAPTURE / ANIMATION

The proof of concept short was shot locally at Take One, who subsequently produced all character animation.
VIRTUAL PRODUCTION

The scene assembly and final frame rendering was achieved in UE5 running on AMD hardware.
