KREWELLA: LATAM TOUR 22 POSTER

Study project: Poster for the Latin American Tour of the musical duo Krewella, formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2007 by the sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf. They sing and play electronic music, mostly following the EDM style.Iv found that their family comes from Pakistan and Germany.

As I'm a longtime fan of them, I've been watching and researching about the duo's music videos , art music and ep covers to get inspired by it.

MOODBOARD

I've noticed in most of the songs a lot of energy, rising tones and fast pace. I gathered elements, colors and lines of strong expression to represent these concepts, and also others that I noticed in the graphic materials that the band uses to promote their music and events:

CREATION PROCESS

After testing several different sketches and compositions, I came up with one main idea.

The idea of having a portal in art is about having something opening, full of possibilities as it can bring a sense of mystery, and that there is something more emerging from it. In it we can see built-in elements that refer to sound system equipment. In the background,

I added controller buttons for a soundboard. Neon lights comers out of the portal and refers to the lights I've observed in the duo's lives videos.

I used the mandala in the background, an eye that represents clear vision and mental lucidity, crystals, in addition to several arms that we observe in gods or deities present in Eastern cultures or spiritual practices. I also found all the elements mentioned in the duo's music videos. Also we can listen some voices and timbres of Pakistani or Indian culture on some of their songs.

Some palm trees were add to the background to represent the tropical climate of most of Latin America. The neon lettering style I used in the LATAM TOUR and December 2022 title and subtitle was based on in styles found in the duo's graphic previous materials.
