Hannibal Lecter Trilogy

The main symbolism I drew on was the emotion the main character, Hannibal Lecter, evokes. This is a feeling of drowning and suffocation, thus I decided to illustrate his skin in different shades and tints of blue; this further represents how he drowned his victims as well using the pattern to represent that feeling precisely. I then focused on symbolism from each book itself- the death moth in The Silence of the Lambs, the body suit and mask in Hannibal, and the Oroton in Hannibal Rising. To represent his cannibalism I used the pattern to represent raw muscles and to represent Hannibal himself, I used the antlers of a Stag, in which he is often described.

The composition I chose is based on the concept that Hannibal is reaching his hands outside of bars/ a cell ( therefore coming out at you). Together the books create a whole image as apart the each represents a big factor in the book. The hand gestures also flow with the composition, ‘silence’ representing a low, soft hand gesture ‘rising’ representing a stern, high hand gesture. The spines of the books fit together as an image too, fully creating a representation of Hannibal Lecter; these join each story of his life, making it whole.
