BAR BLEU MURAL

Surface Design
[BAR BLEU] - Latest project working with a seafood and champagne restaurant @barbleuhk, located in Soho, Hong Kong. The original request was to paint a sea creature which represents the nature of the restaurant and octopus was picked as the key visual for the mural. Yet simply depicting an octopus on the wall lacks a story, and becomes a mere decoration. Therefore I decided to use octopus as the protagonist to tell a story of my choice. ⁣

This mural named “The Promise” is inspired by the nature and characteristics of octopus, how its tentacles are all tangled to symbolize the unbreakable bond of a relationship. The mural is done with two layers of painting, blue paint was used to paint the octopus, while black ink was used to depict two hands forming a pinky handshake, to present the idea of promise being the unbreakable bond. Working with the surroundings, the mural would be seen from left to right, across the restaurant and arrive at the last wall with my personal definition of “Promise” - The sole constant within the world of variables, how promises being a certainty within any form of relationships. I believe “promises”, once made, would become a certainty. It is almost mathematical, once a promise is made, it becomes a constant. It is an unbreakable bond created by a personal choice, and carried with commitment and resilience. It is the sole constant within a world where everything is uncertain. ⁣
