[9 DISCONNECTIONS] - The concept behind the painting derives from the book “Lost Connections - why you’re depressed and how to find hope” by Johann Hari. 9 causes of depression and anxiety were mentioned in the book and that particular chapter inspires this very painting. ⁣

9 causes of depressions and anxiety: ⁣
- Disconnection from meaningful work ⁣
- Disconnection from other people⁣
- Disconnection from meaningful value ⁣
- Disconnection from childhood trauma ⁣
- Disconnection from status and respect ⁣
- Disconnection from the natural world ⁣
- Disconnection from a hopeful and secure future ⁣
- The real role of genes ⁣
- The real role of brain changes ⁣

In the painting it depicts a snow leopard, which often refers as the loneliest animal in the natural world, constantly living in isolation. Its body is disconnected by nine lines, echoing the idea of the nine causes. Symbolizing how an individual who suffers from mental health disorders is being constantly disconnected from himself. Flower within the leopard body symbolizes the fragility of the individual and how vulnerable we are as human beings living in modern society, where we are constantly being suppressed and pressured by different social and political values.⁣

Hand painted with @molotowheadquarters alcohol based marker over the course of three days. 5600mm x 2000mm.
