Minnesota Aurora Borealis

Minnesota Aurora Borealis
September 4th, 2022
An advantage of living in Minnesota is that I am about a 4-5 hour drive away from dark skies and wilderness in Northern Minnesota. It had been more than a year since I had last seen Aurora Borealis. The location that I shot these photos from is a place that I had been to before, but I had never seen the Northern Lights here and thought it would be a good place to be for the night. The first two photos were when the lights were starting to get active and strong. The next two photos is when the lights looked the best and were really going crazy. The pillars were huge and the best that I have seen for the few times I have witnessed the Northern Lights. The last two photos were when they were starting to die down some, but still really looked good. During this whole time, the moon was also still in the sky. The moonshine helped light the scenery and I think really added a lot to the photos and made them even better. These were my dream shots of Minnesota scenery; a lake, a boat pier, lily pads, reeds, woods and the Northern Lights. I even heard a loon in the distance a couple times while I was shooting. It was a great, late summer night!
