GEIRANGERFJORD
NORWAY
These unique giant fjords were created during a succession of ice ages, glaciers carved out deep fjords and shaped the high and steep mountains. This striking landscape does not come without its perils. In 1934, part of a mountain crashed into the fjord, causing a tidal wave that devastated the nearby community of Tafjord. It has a rich cultural and historical heritage, with evidence of human habitation dating back over 4,000 years. Today, Geirangerfjord is considered one of the most beautiful fjords in the world.
I've experienced walking down the foothill of the fjords as well as climbing to the top of the fjord and looking down. It's an amazing experience and makes me feel very very small. In fact, I feel that the whole landscape is meant to be for giant beings! Just what Rick Riordan once said: "Pretty didn't do it justice. I felt like we'd sailed into a world meant for much larger beings, a place where gods and monsters roamed freely." Enjoy!
