Video Series: "Couch Sessions"

This was a series of interview videos we did for Department of Education-funded projects to explain their work, and tell people about themselves. The aim was to recognize their work, give them material they could use on their web site to increase awareness among their peers as well as increase opportunities for collaboration both outside and inside their typical network.

We shot very low budget and used ...a couch and a green screen background cloth to give us the freedom to change the background of the interviews and add some gradient color and motion graphics.
Our Opening Titles moved in from 'behind' the camera.
We also used a flowing-color background gradient.
And the spinning pinwheel logo represented the Department of Education network these projects were a part of.
We did probably a dozen of these.
We used these title cards as transitions between interview subject matter.
We didn't always have the couch, but we did always use the green screen. This group doesn't look too nervous, do they?
And the composited background is added in.
As well as graphics animated in behind them.
Other graphics get moved in (and out) in different ways.
And sometimes I'd even paint out people so we had more space to add in text or graphics.
Like this.
Not my best effort with the graphics, but often we had to bust these things out without having them be perfect.
And the simpler graphics gave us some freedom to be playful (this is a rocketing school, if you can't tell).
Showing the States this project works in.
And animating those States out.
A little use of After Effects tracking and animating lines.
More After Effects tracking.
This team was fun to work with.
This is one of the videos.
